Our Story

Sky Ridge Alpacas started out as a way for owners Skip and Stacie Chavez to relax at the end of a busy day.  It has evolved into the challenging world of breeding and showing Huacaya Alpacas.  The first animals purchased were bought for their "cuteness factor". Since then, they have only purchased the best breeding lines and genetics that they have been able to find.  On the ranch, you will find genetic linage from:  Hemingway, Augusto, Caligula, El Nino, Legacy, Presidio, Vengador, Dracula and Extreme.  We have Huacayas from the best breeding programs available in the United States: Snowmass, Pacific Crest, Crescent Moon, Escondido and Elegante Vellon. Skip and Stacie's business plan for Sky Ridge Alpacas has evolved. Originally our plan was to remain a small breeding ranch with only top performing Huacayas. That goal has never changed, although our herd has grown much larger. Our newest goals incorporate the development of a large fiber herd and the creation of the full livestock model. We currently have hundreds of free range males that roam the property and rotate around eating the native grasses. This has become our passion. Stacie and her partner Lynn Edens have purchased Imperial Yarn Company, and some of this alpaca fiber is used in their business projects for the company.

Specializing in all varieties of yarn, from wool, to alpaca- wool blends. We also are a major supplier of production yarns, used in making various home goods, blankets etc. Their travels have taken them around the world, but they have chosen beautiful Tygh Valley to call home. Located in a lush green valley located just 30 miles from the mighty and picturesque Columbia River.

What We've Achieved

  • We have been fortunate to have achieved all levels of success in our breeding program, and in numerous high level awards, ribbons, and banners at many Alpaca shows around the country. This is all a direct result of selective breeding choices.
  • We cannot stress the importance of genetics and nutrition
  • All of our animals are halter trained and sociable animals
Here are some of the Super Studs with amazing genetics.
